Attention Yakima Shoppers! Nostalgic for K-Mart? Check This Out!
It might seem like yesterday when I was shopping for holiday deals at K-Mart off of East Nob Hill Blvd, but it’s been a little longer than yesterday.
9 years! K-Mart has been gone for 9 freakin’ years!
Okay, maybe it does seem like a lot longer than 9 years since the store was closed.
Whether it was a particular brand of items the store carried, the deals and “Blue-Light Specials”, or the workers, I do have some fondness in my heart for that store.
Even though our store closed in December of 2016, there are (as of November 2024) 11 stores still in operation in the United States.
Which is wild when you see what was recently found and posted online!
THE JAMS OF K-MART!
Yeah, you read that right, the jams of K-Mart! A former employee of the store has decided to upload the store’s background ‘elevator’ music to YouTube, and it is pure nostalgic gold!
Mark Davis took to his YouTube channel to upload his “strange collection” of audio cassettes featuring music and announcements that played in his K-Mart in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The cassettes were issued by K-Mart’s corporate headquarters and were rotated monthly, then weekly, and according to Mark, around 1993, satellite radio replaced the need for tapes.
So, when the day came to trash the tapes, Mark saved them, all for our benefit! Check out the video below:
It’s worth a trip to read the description of Mark’s video on his page for a more detailed history of K-Mart and his cassette tape collection!
