The Seattle Mariners batters were stymied once again tonight (May 17) mustering just 4 hits and a lone run at the hand of starting pitcher Casey Mize and the Detroit Tigers in the first of a three-game home series at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

Mize tossed 7 2/3 innings allowing a scant 3 hits while walking three and striking out 7 in leading the Motor City Kitties to a 4-1 victory.

Mariners starter Yusei Kickuchi kept the game in check, however, by unfurling 6 solid innings while surrendering 3 runs on 3 hits while issuing four free passes and punching out 8 Tiger would-be hitters. The loss dropped Kikuchi's record on the year to 1-3 and the club's season mark back to .500 at 21-21. They trail AL West Division-leading Oakland by 4 games.

Mariners top prospect Jarred Kelenic went 1-for-4 with a single in the loss. Despite a 3-for-4 night which saw him collect his first MLB home run on Friday, Kelenic has scuffled since his call-up on Thursday and is now batting .182.
