The Seattle Mariners put up a three-spot in the 8th inning today (May 26) but it wasn't enough to overcome a six-run hole that they had dug themselves into in an effort to sweep the Oakland A's at Rickey Henderson Field for the first time since 2016 in a 6-3 road loss.

Mitch Haniger and Kyle Seager both had RBI hits in the top of the 8th to make things closer. Seattle also boarded two runners on the base paths in the final frame only to have Jarred Kelenic's flare hit to shallow left field get robbed of a base hit.

Seattle's record fell to 23-27 on the year. They are 5 1/2 games behind the division-leading Athletics in third place in the American League West.
