While it is virtually impossible to go 162-0 in Major League Baseball, as fans exited T-Mobile Park last night (April 1) following a dramatic 8-7 come-from-behind win in 10 innings against San Francisco on Opening Day, there was nary a Mariners fan that couldn't help but utter the words "undefeated" as they were exiting the ballpark.

Well, that didn't last long.
Despite a 10-strikeout performance from starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi, the Mariners fell back to earth tonight losing to the G-Men by a final of 6-3 despite jumping out to an early 3-1 lead after 3 innings.

The loss dropped the Mariners record on the young 2021 season back to .500 at 1-1.

The Giants were propelled by home runs from catcher Buster Posey and third baseman Evan Longoria to rally for two runs in the 6th and three runs in the 7th innings. For both Longoria and Posey, it was their second round-trippers in as many nights. For Posey, it was the first time that he has hit homers in consecutive games since 2017.

The Mariners and Giants complete the season-opening three-game series tomorrow (April 3) in a rubber match to determine the opening weekend victor with first pitch slated for 6:40. The game will be televised on ROOT Sports.

Chris Flexen is scheduled to take the mound for Seattle in his debut with the team since coming stateside after pitching last year in Korea after spending his first three professional seasons with the New York Mets.
