National Bacon Day!
There was a time in my life where I did not like bacon. Then I turned 2 years old and life changed. Bacon makes everything better! Got an awesome burger... add bacon! Now you have an EPIC BURGER! Sick of the same old salad, bacon bits were created for a reason! Sex life got you down... add some bacon to get the sizzle back in the bedroom (or so I've heard).
According to NationalToday.com, December 30th is National Bacon Day! Although you can celebrate it anywhere in the world, this holiday (created in 1997) is mainly celebrated in the United States, as a change of pace from the other traditional holidays at this time of year. But when did we start eating pork? The consumption of it dates back thousands of years to 4900 B.C. where the Chinese domesticated pigs. It wasn't till around 1500 B.C. when it made it's way to the Romans & Greeks created an early form of bacon they called "Petaso". It was pig shoulder broiled with dried figs, browned and served with wine.
Now days, it's anywhere and everywhere. Heck certain restaurants have entire sections of their menus dedicated to bacon... including bacon milkshakes (pictured above). But how do you actually go about and celebrate National Bacon Day? Well, eat bacon of course... but it seems like you should do more. Let's just make it simple and eat a bacon burger while watching something with Kevin Bacon. I highly recommend Tremors, Hollowman, National Lampoon's Animal House, & Mystic River!
