The Vintiques Yakima classic car organization, in conjunction with the City of Yakima, have announced the return of open cruise nights on Yakima Avenue beginning this weekend.

In a posting on their official Facebook page, the group stated that cruise nights will begin on Saturday, June 12th. Moving forward through the rest of the summer, the dates for the summer cruising on Yakima Ave. will be the 2nd and 3rd Saturdays of each month through September.

Back in the day, cruising the Ave. was allowed and Yakima Avenue would be PACKED on Friday and Saturday nights from 16th all the way down to Naches Ave. with cars looking to "peacock", "hook-up" and just try to have a good time.

Years ago, the city clamped down on the practice and now requires permitting to have a cruise night. With that, there will be a police presence on the avenue and the Vintiques reminds those that want to participate to, well... just be cool.

In other words, don't be the bad apple in the barrel that spoils it for everyone else. Avoid racing, doing burnouts or donuts, jackrabbit starts, etc. They also remind all to make sure that there is enough room on the other side of an intersection before crossing as it can get quite congested. Of course, keeping one's eyes peeled for pedestrians and foot traffic is also important too.

In the words of the Vintiques club, "Dust off that hotrod, streetrod, vintage car, low-rider, resto-mod, muscle car, tuner car, ratrod, exotic car, 4x4 or whatever your ride is. Lifted or slammed, painted or not, and lets see it on THE AVE!"
