There are now 45 active wildfires in Oregon, including the Eagle Creek fire in the Columbia Gorge.

As shocked passengers aboard an Amtrak train just below the flames alongside a closed I-84, children were scared and began to cry as the train passed the devastation.

The flames and smoke have prompted the closure of I-84, with evacuations underway for three communities.

According to Oregon fire managers, the extreme fire behavior on the Eagle Creek Fire in the Columbia River Gorge has meant all lanes are closed from Troutdale (Exit 17) to two miles west of Hood River (Mile Post 62).

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office has issued Level 3 evacuations for the communities of Dodson and Warrendale. The Hood River County sheriff issued Level 3 evacuations for everything south of Interstate 84 in Cascade Locks.

Remember: Level 3 means go now; Level 2 means that you should be ready to evacuate at a moment's notice; and Level 1 means be on alert.
