Authorities say they always see an increase in robberies at this time of year and this year is no different. Yakima Police Capt. Jay Seely says they've started increasing patrols around local stores. Two robberies have been reported this week in the Yakima and Wapato areas. On Tuesday afternoon two suspects robbed Allens Market at gunpoint. On Tuesday night a man with a gun robbed the 7-Eleven at 16th and Summitview in Yakima. That suspect was arrested but police say arrests are rare. However Capt. Seely says they have an active plan this year that will hopefully result in more arrests and fewer robberies this fall and winter.
Police however know the robberies can turn deadly. Yakima Police detectives continue the search for two murder suspects wanted in the 2017 fatal shooting of 25-year-old Vikrum Jaryal a clerk at the AM/PM on east Yakima Avenue who was killed during robbery.
