Punxsutawney Phil Says 6 More Weeks, But Hanford Hank Says Spring!
Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow today which means he's predicting another six weeks of winter but according to our own Hanford Hank, above temperatures and spring-like weather is on the way for the Columbia Basin.
It's Groundhog Day 2021 and Phil has spoken, another six weeks of winter because he saw his shadow from his burrow in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.
It's a tradition that's been going on since 1886 and Phil's aren't perfect. We make a big adieu but Phil is only correct 39% of the time, if he was an NFL Quarterback, he would've been sacked ages ago.
Luckily, we have our own groundhog of legend, and that's Hanford Hank.
Hanford Hank peaks his head up once a year beneath his burrow underneath the world-famous Reactor "B" and his prediction for 2021 is much different than his long distant relative.
According to the National Weather Service and Hanford Hank, Spring appears to be on the way.
Our temperatures in the Columbia Basin are above average and we'll see near sixty-degree temps before settling for the high 40's over the next few weeks.
If I was banking on a groundhog this Groundhog's Day, I think I'll put my money down on Hanford Hank for our area.
Sadly, our friends on the East Coast aren't as lucky as they've been hit with a ton of snow thanks to the Noreaster storm that's rolled through the East Coast over the last week.
