March Madness began yesterday in Yakima with the opening of the Washington State Class 2A and 1A Boys and Girls basketball tournaments in the Yakima Valley SunDome.

The Zillah Leopards boys team opened yesterday's schedule by knocking off Toledo, 41-38.  With the win, they have guaranteed themselves of receiving a trophy.  They will play today at 3:45 against Cashmere.

In other action on the hardwood from across the state, the Davis Pirates crushed Bothell 79-45 in the 4A Boys tournament in the Tacoma Dome.  They play at 7:15 tonight in the semi-finals vs. Bellarmine Prep.

In class 2A, the Ellensburg boys fell to White River 67-65.  The Bulldogs will take on Clover Park at 2:00 this afternoon in a loser-out battle.  Coversely, the East Valley girls defeated W.F. West in a nail-biter 32-31 to advance to the semis tonight at 5:30 against White River.

In 1A boys action, Granger got edged by Lynden Christian 47-46 while Naches got dumped by Cascade Christian 54-37.  Granger and Naches will face off at 10:30 this morning in a loser-out game.  For the ladies, Granger came up short at the hands of Freeman 55-48 and tip-off this afternoon against Cascade Christian.

Sunnyside Christian will play out of the losers bracket after falling to Valley Christian at Spokane Arena in the 1B Boys tourney yesterday by a tally of 47-40.  They'll take on Mt. Rainier Lutheran at 9 o'clock this morning.  In girls action, White Swan slipped by Pe Ell 49-47 and will play Brewster.  Tip-off is slated for 5:30 in the SunDome.
