A tragic crash in the lower Yakima valley on Thursday killed three teens and injured four others.

ALL INVOLVED WERE FROM 16 TO 18-YEARS-OLD

Yakima County Sheriff's Deputies were called to 3790 block of Shields Road at about 10:05AM for a one vehicle crash in which people were ejected. Authorities say all who were involved in the crash are from 16 to 18-years-old. 7 people were riding in the 2003 Ford Explorer type pickup with three of the teens riding in the back or open bed of the vehicle. All were working at a local farm before the crash and were on a lunch break.

TWO OF THE TEENS WERE THROWN FROM THE VEHICLE AND DIED

Deputies say they were traveling south on Shields road toward Progressive Road at a high speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle. As the driver reached the bottom of a hill the vehicle went off of the roadway and slid sideways and the vehicle rolled. Deputies say when the vehicle rolled, two of the teens were thrown from the back of the vehicle and died. A 3rd teen suffered an amputated arm. That person was flown Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

NO IDENTITIES WERE RELEASED AS THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

The driver and other passengers that had been in the cab of the pickup were also injured and transported to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. One of the passengers from the cab of the pickup was ejected and died. He had not been wearing a seatbelt. No identities have been released as the investigation continues Today.

The collision is under investigation by the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit with assistance from the Washington State Patrol.
