Todd’s Take: My Favorite Flower is a Shinedown Song, “Amaryllis”

Back in March of 2012, the band Shinedown -- which is the one band my whole family can listen to without any argument -- released their album titled "Amaryllis". The title track to the CD quickly became one of my favorites.

I had never heard the word "amaryllis" before so after a quick Google search, I soon found out that it was a bulbous flower that originated in Africa.

A few months later, around Christmas time, I happened to be in a big box hardware store and they were selling amaryllis bulbs. The picture on the box reminded me a bit of poinsettias which I love. I thought I'd take a chance. Man, I'm glad I did!

They take a very long time, relatively, to grow but when they finally bloom... it's spectacular!

My wife and I have bought a few more since then. She (my wife) is a hairdresser and talks to many people every day. She mentioned that many of her clients had gotten turned on to them.
