DRIVER ALERT. Yakima city crews continue to be busy with a number of road and infrastructure work to improve and repair city property before the fall and winter months set in and the work is forced to stop.

THE SIGNAL WON'T BE WORKING ON WEDNESDAY

Wednesday, August 11 Yakima city crews will be working on the signal at the intersection of North 2nd Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. That means the signal will not be working so the four-way stop rule will be in place. Whoever reaches the intersection first is allowed to proceed. As a result of the work traffic at the intersection will be restricted to one lane in each direction during the project work hours of 7:00AM to 12:00PM on Wednesday. Temporary stop signs will be in place as the signal will be off during the project work hours.

CREWS ARE UPDATING LIGHTS TO MORE VISIBLE LED LIGHTS

Specifically crews will upgrade signal heads at the intersection, replacing 8-inch incandescent signal lights with all new 12-inch LED signal lights. The result is a light that drivers are able to view in all light conditions making the intersection safer.
The project is part of Phase 1 of traffic signal head upgrades in the Downtown Yakima area. It will be the sixth traffic signal upgrade in the downtown area this year.
Because of heavy traffic volume, drivers can expect delays in the project area. Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the work is completed.

Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related work zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.

Police and city officials are looking at red light cameras as another way to make city intersections safer.
