From the beginning of time, people have been seeing strange things in the sky that can't be explained. Since the early 1950s, the term unidentified flying objects (UFO) has been used to categorize the unexplained objects seen in the sky.

Michigan has had its share of UFO sightings over the years. There is one in particular sighting that happened in West Michigan where hundreds of people reported seeing strange lights off Lake Michigan that have yet to be explained to this day.

Velthouse asked Bushong if he had radar and to check the area of Ottawa County. Bushong did in fact pick up some objects he could not explain. At times there would be one object, two objects, three objects, and even four objects. The objects would hover 5000 to 7000 feet then move or jump quickly and hover again. The objects were watched moving from down to South Haven and then Berrien Springs before moving across Lake Michigan toward Chicago.

Bushong said in all the years of tracking storms, he had never had anything like this on his radar screens.

In 1994, there were no cell phones with video cameras. Most people didn't even own a home video camera back then so capturing lights in the sky was something very rare unfortunately in this case, there were no such videos made but over 300 witness accounts.

The above video report from WOOD TV8 runs through the story in detail including maps of the radar and conversations with retired weatherman John Bushong.
