Vaccination Washington --  What's the goal, what's realistic, what's the science, what about personal choice and freedom?

They're Baaaack

The Governor of Washington, Jay Inslee, says masks are back for his administrative circle and Yakima County Commissioner Amanda McKinney joins KIT's Morning News radio show to talk about what's ahead for Yakima as COVID comes roaring back across the country.

One of the big picture points McKinney makes is about the change in the American Expectation. By that I mean a change in what is seen a reasonable and even necessary for each individual to do -not just for themselves- but for their neighbors.  It used to be we would take care of ourselves and then look to help others if we could.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

With a COVID variant on the move, Democrats in control of the state and federal government and no settled science in sight, the prevailing guidance seems to be that your neighbor can now direct what you need to do and how you need to live in order to protect them first.

McKinney is amazed at how easily we have been conditioned to accept the new normal in place of the old personal responsibility.

What's The End Game?

McKinney raises the key question of "how does the story end?"  When 90% of us a fully vaccinated and COVID is still with us, then what? Will individuals living in a free society be forced to become a collective society living in a government-run "for-our-own-good" kind of world?

Right now the state has determined that students and teachers will be required to wear masks when returning to school this fall.  The County Health Board, with the newly installed Health Officer in place, will meet tomorrow.   What comes of that meeting?  Stay tuned.
