Yaki-Vegas.
Crackima.
The Palm Springs of Washington.
We've heard them all.
Nicknames said tongue-in-cheek and/or disparagingly, for Yakima. Is one worse than the other? Better?

I took to Twitter to find out if they are interchangeable or not.

Having lived in various parts of the Yakima Valley for the vast majority of my life -- I was raised in West Valley, have lived the last 17 years in East Valley and spent a couple of years in "The Hole" on South Sixth St. -- I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly. And, I've heard all of the nicknames of the place I have chosen to call home.

Yeah, I get that we only hurt the ones we love which is why some of the nicknames for Yakima are, what seems, critical even if they are somewhat funny and truthful.

I took to Twitter using the hashtags #Yakivegas, #Crackima and #PalmSpringsOfWashington to see if they were all one in the same or if they were used with varying degrees of disdain or love and compassion.

Here's what I discovered...
Former Puyallup native and University of Washington Huskies and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Brock Huard seems to be using it as a term of endearment upon a trip to the iconic drive-in Miners.

#PalmSpringsOfWashington

This user seems to be incredulous.

I'm not quite sure if this reference from Washington native Rainn Wilson as Dwight Schrute in the hit TV show "The Office" is supposed to mean.

#YakiVegas

MMA stud Miesha Tate knows what's up.

These ladies seem to be enjoying their time in Yaki-Vegas.

Student Athletes from across the state come to Yakima to compete in sports tournaments and refer to our town as YakiVegas.

#Crackima

The good news? We made the New York Times! The bad news? Yeah...

Awkward Audrey doesn't seem terribly thrilled...

Former Davis High and Eastern Washington University standout and now NFL star Cooper Kupp threw some shade at Yakima...

In the final analysis, it looks as though the "Palm Springs of Washington", albeit corny, is typically used with a timbre of love from locals while "Yaki-Vegas" seems to be a bit more universal. "Crackima", on the other hand, is spiteful.
