WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY for HAZARDOUS WEATHER: SNOW

It likely won't be a record-setting storm that will produce 8-foot drifts and ground aircraft but there is an official WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY in effect for our area.

The National Weather Service has issued this advisory for HAZARDOUS WEATHER which is more likely to provide another opportunity to build the perfect snowman.

From the National Weather Service:

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM TUESDAY TO 10 AM
PST WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3
  inches.

* WHERE...Kittitas Valley and Yakima Valley.

* WHEN...From 6 PM Tuesday to 10 AM PST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous
  conditions could impact the morning commute.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Slow down and use caution while traveling.

That is some very good advice -- to slow down and use caution while traveling. Most winter driving incidents could be lessened or avoided altogether if this simple reminder is taken and followed.

Is it just me, or does it seem that the closer we get to February these past few years, the more snow we seem to receive? Rather than the snowy Decembers and Januarys, I remember in years past, we've enjoyed relatively little snowy roadways in and around town and have seen the white stuff fall mainly in the mountains, where we certainly need it for the spring runoff and irrigation. February, however, has been a bit more 'flakey' in recent years.

Even though the weather outlook for the next couple of days won't snow us in - it's a good time to be sure that you're prepared for the eventual 'dump'. In addition to having a shovel ready, you should consider having an emergency kit prepared for your home and your car.
