Yakima Isn’t Ugliest City in WA State. That Honor Celebrates the West Side
You can look around Yakima or many cities in Eastern Washington and see weeds coming through abandoned parking lots, graffiti everywhere and think to yourself that it's not as clean as it should be. You're not alone. It's not just our area but many around the United States as well. Ugly cities was a topic recently on Alot, a website that gathers lists based on different states. When I saw them listing the ugliest cities in Washington state I just knew it was going to be a city near here but, as it turns out, the Ugliest city isn't even in Eastern Washington.
That privilege belongs to our friends in Aberdeen. Hometown of Nirvana's Kirk Cobain and wrestler Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryon in WWE).
According to a Reddit user:
"After I visited Aberdeen, Washington, I felt like I understood Kurt Cobain better. The natural surroundings are stunningly beautiful, but in the middle of it there’s this gray, dark, depressing town built on a swamp that feels like it sucks the life out of you. If a town could have feelings, this one would be utterly, hopelessly depressed."
Admittedly I haven't spent much time in Aberdeen. I've only driven through it once or twice and didn't seem like that bad of a town. Maybe a bit blue-collar town and less touristy than its neighboring Ocean Shores but this is also according to them, not us.
I'm not sure what I'd put on the list above Aberdeen but I'm just happy it's not Yakima.
