Yakima Valley Has Some Cool Ways to Celebrate Batman Day

One of my favorite unofficial holidays is almost here: Batman Day! And the Yakima Valley has a couple of really cool ways we can celebrate it this Saturday, September 19th! Luckily, they don’t involve publicly beating up people dressed up as clowns (kids, get parents' permission first).

A Little Bat History About The Holiday

Batman Day was first celebrated in July of 2014 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Caped Crusader and to coincide with the San Diego Comic-Con, but it has since moved to being celebrated in September, which is awesome because that also celebrates Washington’s very own Batman, Adam West, which you can celebrate in the town of Walla Walla with Adam West Day!

How To Celebrate Batman Day In The Yakima Valley

Well, there are several ways to celebrate the Dark Knight here at home. The Yakima Valley has several shops to nerd out in and get your bat-reading on, with Ron’s Coin & Collectibles (6 N. 3rd Street in Yakima), Yakomix (1404 Fruitvale Blvd in Yakima), Central City Comics (113 E 4th Ave in Ellensburg), to name a few.

You can play video games (so many to choose from) or watch a movie at home; once again, there are no shortage of Batman on the small screen, but this year there’s an extra big treat on the Big Screen!

The Grand Cinemas Yakima Valley (3400 Picard Pl in Sunnyside) will be showing 3 different Batman films throughout Batman Day! Batman ’89, the LEGO Batman Movie, and the animated classic, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. (Check out trailers below).

Other Special Events For Batman Day

DC Comics is planning on having some fun with their official Twitch and YouTube channels starting at 2 pm on Saturday, 9/19, complete with the latest LEGO Batman Game (Legacy of the Dark Knight) and a Batman-themed PC Giveaway!

They’re also dropping a special Batman Day comic that will feature Batman from the main DC line of comics and the latest incarnation of the Dark Knight, Absolute Batman! Hopefully those books make their way to the Yakima Valley; special Batman Day books in the past have been sparse.
