Last year at this time the Yakima Valley Museum, full of Yakima history closed the doors because of COVID-19. The closure impacted a lot of exhibits that were set to open says museum officials including Women's Suffrage in Washington in the Great Hall and Divergent Voices/Common Ground in the Hislop Gallery. But there's good news for those who love the museum and all it has to offer. Those exhibits are now awaiting the reopening of the museum which is set for April 15, Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
While the museum was closed a lot of work has happened to update exhibits. A press release says officials have renovated the agriculture exhibit, installed bilingual text panels across the museum, interactive video kiosks in the Mammoth Exhibit and Cabinet of Curiosities, and an updated pharmacy exhibit. "And, of course the bees will be back.We are committed to building a sense of wonder for all members of our community.
To keep everyone safe and COVID-19 free the museum will limit the number of guests operating at 50% capacity as per state guidelines."
Everyone, including staff is required to wear face masks except those under the age of 2.  "Social distancing signs are posted throughout the museum, enhanced cleaning protocols have been implemented, and hand sanitizing stations have been installed throughout the museum. The Soda Foundation remains closed at present. The Children’s Underground will remain closed until it is safe to re-open. Rental of the museum facilities is now available with reduced capacity at each venue. We encourage you to call the museum to discuss the possibility of holding your event at the museum."
