Are $10 Bills Disappearing in Washington?
Are the $10 bills being phased out in the U.S.? I’ve been having a hard time finding them, and (at least to me) it seems like they are becoming less and less available. Has anyone else had this issue? Below, I have what I’ve experienced and what the official word is.
Are You Having A Hard Time Finding $10 Bills?
In Central Washington (Yakima Valley), I’ve been having a hard time. At several grocery stores I’ve been to (Fred Meyer, Safeway, WinCo), when I’ve received change and asked for $10s, they were short or out.
I finally chopped it up and went to my bank. The Automated Teller Machine (ATM) didn’t offer the choice of tens. Just 20s, 5s, and 1s. That’s weird. An ATM offering 1s and not 10s?
I went inside and asked if I could get 10s, and the worker informed me that the branch only carried the same denominations that are in the ATMs. I asked why, and she couldn’t give me an answer.
I started to think that they were just getting rid of the green back of Alexander Hamilton (after everything Lin-Manuel Miranda has done), like how they’re phasing out the Penny.

What does ‘The Google’ Have to Say About the Future of $10 Bills?
According to the Gi-De.com and Wikipedia articles, a new redesigned $10 bill will enter circulation in 2026. Followed by a new $50 bill in 2028, followed by the $20 bill in 2030, $5 in 2032, and the $100 bill will finally get its turn in 2034. The purpose of this is primarily to prevent counterfeiting.
Is this the reason I’m seeing less $10 bills or just a coincidence? Tap the App and let me know your thoughts.
