Bend, Oregon Council Upset Over Googly Art!
We’ve all been there, late night, not in the right frame of mind.
Whether that frame of mind is caused by drinking too much, smoking too much, being awake too much, or just being bored with disposable income, it leads to something.
You hop online and let your fingers do the walking.
A few days later, your late-night purchase was delivered.
Sure, your partner has told you to stop spending money on stupid things, but this isn’t just another stupid purchase.
This is an investment in the culture of your city.
A way to give back to the community that you love.
A way to show that you too, can be an artist.
The city you love, will soon know your craft.
Then, the state of Oregon!
And now the entire world (thanks to a report from the BBC).
BUT, with every great artist, there will always be naysayers!
In this case, it is the actual city of Bend, Oregon.
City Council has asked people to stop putting googly eyes on different statues and artwork around the city.
“While the googly eyes placed on the various art pieces around town might give you a chuckle, it costs money to remove them with care to not damage the art” – Bend, Oregon City Council.
Around the holidays, the art has been decorated with wreaths and hats, but nothing that could risk damage to the sculptures, and that’s where the googly eyes are different.
As of this writing, 8 pieces of artwork have been affected, with the city spending $1,500 to remove the googly eyes safely from 7 of the states.
While the council loves the engagement with the art, they don’t want the risk of damage.
Which city do you think is the FASTEST growing city in Oregon?
