Central Washington State Fair Animals Are Worth a Look

One of the biggest staples at the Central Washington State Fair is also one of the ones that don’t get talked about nearly enough, in my opinion, and that is the animals!

All Sorts of Animals At The Central Washington State Fair

From all the youth livestock competitions to traveling exhibits, and even the animals you can ride, for many of us who have never been on or around a farm, this is our opportunity to see these animals up close and personal!

Some are adorable and cute, some are slimy and scary! Others will tilt their head patiently awaiting a pet, while others are just eyeballing you, waiting for you to get too close and put your finger through the wires! I’m looking at you, Snapping Turtle and alligator at Brad’s Reptile World!

Farm Grown

My grandparents had a farm here in Yakima, so I’ve been around pigs, cows, and chickens. My brother and I had rabbits for pets when we were kids (sad life lessons were learned that winter). But the one animal I’ve always wanted to pet, and have never gotten the opportunity to do so, is a horse. Yep, I’ve never petted a horse.

That was my personal goal for this year’s Central Washington State Fair. My wife and I went; we visited the barns, saw the horses, saw the donkeys, saw the ponies, and I had my opportunity to achieve my goal.

NOPE! Too big, too scary for me. I'll stick to something smaller for now like this lil guy!
