For those who have lived in Yakima for the past quarter century or so, the snowy winter of 1996-97 will not soon be forgotten. However, it was the subsequent flooding that occurred in the spring of 1996 that was the most memorable. Could it happen again this year?

After getting dumped on with snow the last week -- with no end in near sight -- it appears that we'll have quite a snowpack hanging around. Temperatures are expected to remain right around freezing for the next couple of weeks, but then it starts to get weird.

According to AccuWeather.com, the forecast high temp on Feb. 26 leaps from the 20s into the low 50s after a day of predicted rain! A sudden and drastic spike in temperature following a day of rain could make the spring of 1996 look like playing in a kiddie pool. Not good!
