Yakima Athlete To Run 62 Miles For Kids in The Valley
She's a coach and an athlete and later this month Yakima's Shannon Mahre will start a 62-mile run to raise money and awareness for kids health care in the Yakima Valley.
THE RUN WILL BENEFIT GREAT PROGRAMS THAT HELP KIDS IN YAKIMA
The long run will take her through Yakima, Naches, Tieton and Selah and it's expected to raise thousands of dollars to support Children’s Miracle Network pediatric programs affiliated with MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital, including the neonatal intensive care unit, family birthplace and Children’s Village.
THE RUN STARTS ON THE MORNING OF MAY 21
A press release says Mahre will start the run early on May 21 from MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital and then she'll run through " sections of the Cowiche Canyon trail system and the Yakima Greenway before finishing at Children’s Village for a community celebration."
YOU CAN JOIN IN ON THE RUN OR DONATE TO HELP OR BOTH
Are you a runner? You are welcome to join Mahre on any section of the trek or you can donate to help the cause.
“Giving back, helping others, building up community and focusing my time on goals that benefit others will always be a priority in my life,” explains Mahre. “I’ll never forget the days that we spent with our newborn in the NICU and the amazing care that he received, and we received. The things that we learned from the nurses and doctors, and the lifelong friendships that we made with the people that took care of our baby when we couldn’t.”
Tree Top in Selah is the run’s presenting sponsor.
Small community gatherings are being organized along the route. For more information on the 100K for $100K event or to donate, visit https://run100Kyakima.givesmart.com
