Yesterday, we received the following listener's e-mail from the mother of a soon-to-be 16 year-old who is a huge fan of the band Shinedown (performing tomorrow night in the Yakima Valley SunDome).

After reading it, we couldn't help but to take action on it:

"Good Morning,

I am writing you in regards to my daughters story.
Since January my Daughter, Gracie & her Dad, Blake- my husband, have made plans to see the Shinedown Concert when they came to Yakima for her Big 16th Birthday this weekend.  You see it was a big deal to us because we thought my husband would be finished with Radiation & his 2nd round of Chemo. Unfortunately, the timing was off & we still have another week of treatments & Blake is too sick to go.
We decided I would take her but even though I have been trying to sell anything & everything..... it is just not in our budget. Our Finances have succumbed to the Cancer also & are that of a family of 4 who’s Father has been battling Pancreatic cancer for a year now.

We have asked many friends and family to accompany her, however it’s seems like this is another let down. I broke the news to her tonight. 😔

If there are any extra cheap seat tickets, or you know someone who would be willing to make this happen for a soon to be 16 year old girl, who has given up everything for the last year and has taken a backseat to her sick Father, Hospital Visits, Surgeries & Treatments... not to mention her younger sister and a backseat to most of her friends, school dances etc., I could never thank you enough  or ask for anything more!

She entered to win the Shinedown Swag contest tonight.
Her name is Gracie Brush. She has to take care of her sister in the mornings while I take her Dad to the Cancer Center everyday. So our time to listen to the radio is minimal but you are her favorite station!

She deserves something to be about her. She deserves something special. Unfortunately, I can’t make that happen & I am heart broken because of it.

Thank you for you time. As you can imagine, I am embarrassed for resorting to asking, begging for a hand out. But for my daughters, after all we have been through this past year, I would ask everyday if I had to.

Sincerely,
Bobbi Brush

After leaving a voicemail, we tried to get in touch with the birthday girl, Gracie, via her Facebook page. Upon further review, it became quite clear that she is, indeed, a massive Shinedown fan, as evidenced by the lyrics to the the band's hit song "State Of My Head" on her profile page.

Eventually, we were able to catch-up with her.
