Mariners 2B Dee Gordon Hits DL With Broken Toe
In what is becoming the baseball equivalent to being the drummer in Spinal Tap, the Seattle Mariners today placed Dee Gordon on the 10-day Disabled List with a fractured right big toe.
Gordon, 30, in his first season with Seattle, was put on the DL retroactive to Monday and will be eligible to come off on May 31 when the M's host Texas at Safeco if the injury allows.
The speedster took over at second base after Robinson Cano was suspended 80 games for violating the league's banned substance policy. Dan Vogelbach (1B/DH) was called-up from AAA Tacoma to fill the roster spot. It is expected that veteran Gordon Beckham will now try to avoid the seemingly-jinxed position in the interim.
