I know exactly what you're thinking.

"Cool!  Who in the hell is Nate Silver?!?!"

Nate Silver is a sabermetrician who uses mathematics to predict outcomes of sporting events, future expected performances by athletes, even election results.

His blog, FiveThirtyEight.com, has become THE go to website for predicting the winner of presidential elections.  In 2008, he accurately predicted, using his own math equations and algorithms, 49 out of 50 states.  This past election, he nailed ALL 50!

This is why I couldn't help but get excited when came out and said that, after "running the numbers", the Seattle Seahawks would face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVII!

Silver himself admits, however, that the game still is indeed played by humans and that no system can ever guess an outcome with 100% accuracy.

“There’s always uncertainty in any metric,” said Silver. “I do think with a Seattle team that did come on so strongly in the second half, you worry, can other coaches readjust to them, potentially? Talent-wise I’m not sure it’s a team that has as much talent, pure talent, as certainly a New England or Denver might, and that’s why the coaching could catch up to them eventually in the postseason, I think.”

Do you think the Hawks will make it all the way?  Let me know in the comments below:
