
New Yakima Council Member Janice Deccio Elected As New Mayor
She's a new Yakima City Council member and now she's Yakima's new mayor.
Deccio was elected mayor as a first time council member
Janice Deccio was elected as Yakima city mayor on Tuesday after taking the oath of office to represent District 4 on the council. Other new council members also took the oath of office Tuesday including Matt Brown in District 6 and Danny Herrera in District 2. Former mayor Patricia Byers served for two years.
Council members also selected an assistant mayor
Soneya Lund was elected as assistant mayor.
The council on Tuesday also voted to continue meeting in a new format allowing people to attend in person or watch on Zoom.
Don't forget your mask if you attend in person
Those who attend meetings at Yakima City Hall will be required to wear a mask.
It's been a long time since the council decided to let people attend in person.
The city started holding remote meetings in March of 2020.
