Family Car Carrying Kids Shot at Multiple Times by One Oregon Mayor

There are many cases of road rage and only a handful of them ever make the news. Road rage happens to the best of us and sometimes we can lose our cool. Seldom do we hear of instigators of road rage being charged with attempted murder, but that is what just happened to Dowen Jones, the current mayor of Rufus, Oregon.

This bad case of road rage has landed Mayor Jones in a local Northern Oregon jail that houses inmates for Sherman, Hood River, Wasco, and Gilliam counties. Local news stories about his road rage incident have stated that Mayor Jones had pulled over to the side of a road and began firing multiple shots at a car passing by. The car happened to contain a family with two young kids riding along with their parents.

“As the family passed the SUV, a male subject, now identified as Jones, stepped from the passenger side and fired multiple shots as the family drove by.” - KATU 2 News

This tragic incident happened on Halloween night around 8:45 p.m. We have yet to hear an official word as to the motive for Mayor Dowen Jones firing upon the vehicle. Jones has the presumption of innocence until either he is proven guilty in a court of law or his attempted murder charges get either amended or dropped.

Mayor Jones was arrested and booked a day after the incident happened and is currently listed in jail as of November 2nd with no bond set or scheduled release date. He is being alleged and charged with “attempted to commit crime - murder.”

Rufus, Oregon, is about half an hour away from The Dalles. It is a very small town with an estimated population of less than 300 persons and is a hot spot for RV camping, paddle foiling, and wind foiling along the Columbia River Gorge.
