Salmonella Expands Recall For Washington Shoppers
I’ve seen many recalls affect Washington State. Everything from food, cars, to even toys. And sadly, more often than not, they impact my life... this is one of those times. Thanks, cheesy bread!
Salmonella Fears Spark Recall In Washington & Oregon
Some of the bigger grocery chains (and their shoppers) are being warned of a massive product recall that is linked to powdered dairy products.

Champion Foods, the company that produces the foods in question (below), issued an expansion of the recall that started mid-April 2026, which was issued by California Dairies Inc. of Visalia, California. The initial recall was for their powdered milk and powdered buttermilk that were sold in bulk to a wide variety of wholesale manufacturers and distributors (more on the initial recall, visit FDA.gov).
The Focus Of This Expanded Recall
Check your freezers if you’re a fan of cheesy bread, especially Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread (I know I had 2 boxes in mine).

Single and two-packs of the cheese bread were the focus of the voluntary recall with expiration dates ranging from February 3rd, 2027, to April 21st, 2027.
The Stores That Sold The Cheese Bread
Stores throughout the Pacific Northwest (and beyond) that carried the recalled product included:
- Costco
- Food City
- C&S
- Grocery Outlet
- Kroger
- KeHe
- Publix
- Supervalu
- Target

Among others. Get the full list at the Publix Website.
Other Foods Affected By The Powdered Cheese Recall
Cheese Bread was not the only food affected by the initial powdered milk recall. Angel Specialty Products drinks like Caramel Latte and Matcha Green Tea, Boba Time Coconut Powder and Italian Yogurt Powder, Blackstone Parmesan Ranch Seasoning, Great Value Thin Crust Chicken Bacon Ranch, among many, many others (view a more complete list at Fox13Seattle.com).

What To Do & Know About Salmonella
If you have any of the recalled items, properly dispose of them and clean any areas that may have come into contact, or, if still sealed, return them to the place of purchase.
If you show signs of Salmonella (such as high fever, vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhea, and dehydration), contact your health care provider.
