The Yakima chapter of the American Red Cross has issued an plea for blood and platelet donations amid local efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. As the outbreak continues Red Cross officials say people may not be thinking about blood donation. But they say blood and platelets are needed daily to help patients battling disease and facing the unexpected. A news release says donating blood is an easy way to care for each other and ensure hospitals have the blood products patients rely on.

As a thank-you for donating the gift of life, all who come to give blood or platelets May 15-31 will receive a special Red Cross “We’re all in this together” T-shirt, by mail, while supplies last.
Donors are urged to make an appointment online at redcrossblood.org as soon as possible -- or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
