Seattle's grunge music scene in the 1990's will be the subject of a new stage musical. Variety says NIRVANA's former manger JANET BILLIG RICH is working on the project with the Seattle Repertory Theater. It will have an original, but fictional story, along with tunes by Nirvana, PEARL JAM, ALICE IN CHAINS, SOUNDGARDEN and other artists from that era.

The process of acquiring the licensing rights is tedious as the writers of the songs will be counted among the authors of the theatrical production since the lyrics are being used to tell the story. Final rights approval must come from each song's copyright holder, often a publisher or a manager.

No further details are available. Still to be set and announced: title, casting, and formal production timeline.
