Never did I ever think I'd fall so deeply in love with my kitty cat Winifred Luna Johnson! I grew up with dogs and the only real experience I had with cats wasn't until later in life through my Dad.

He'd adopted a Siamese cat from his sister that had been taken away from its Mom too soon. Dad said it created some quirks and I quickly discovered Siame's when I came to visit. Probably the main reason I had no desire to own a feline.

Siame would chew on his tail and then whip you in your face with it! It was disgusting, happened often, and always when you weren't ready for it. He also had a weird habit of pooping in the litter box and then shoving kitty litter all over the floor instead of burying it. He had gorgeous blue eyes but didn't seem to have much going on upstairs, the struggle was real!

Since getting married and I've enjoyed cuddles from my husband's childhood cat, also a Siamese named Hagar. He was found as a kitten stuck in the wall of a mini-mart and was an instant family hit. No weird quirks, just a super persistent desire for head scratches and snacks.

I've grown to want a cat and one day while on Facebook I found her! She was discovered in a Walmart parking lot. Skinny with a bum eye but in good spirits, she was perfect. I didn't know as I placed her carrier on the passengers' seat and drove home, she was showing me her first I love you!

Showing Their Belly

I put my fingers through the holes of the carrier top, explaining that she was safe and how excited I was to meet her. She rolled over onto her back and touched her paws to my fingertips. Showing their belly is a sign of trust and comfort. It's so cute but FYI that gesture is not an invitation to touch that soft belly! Each cat is different and you'll discover quickly what each is cool with and not.

The Slow Blink

This is one of my favorites! If you are around a cat, try it. Make eye contact with them and then slowly blink and watch to see if they reciprocate. They aren't just connecting with you they are literally saying, "I love you" with their eyes!

The Head Bop

Another favorite! I love to get down on the ground so we're at eye level. Sometimes the head pops are so quick she lifts up her whole front to really give em but sometimes they're subtle so make sure to watch, if you see them leaning their head towards you, get closer and let em bop you. That's a major, "I love you!"

Sleeping with You

I woke up this morning and Winnie was holding my hand! She is finding more and more creative ways to wake me up when she's to start her day. As she gets older I feel like she is working her routine to fit ours so when it's bedtime she's ready to lead us there and waits until we're both in to jump up and start her evening routine.

Kneading

There are a few cat groups I'm in on social media and I've seen it referred to as, "making biscuits". The bakeshop is open and they've got to get the orders out, very busy day. It always makes me giggle because Winnie acts all shy and then she's up in my face switching back and forth with her two front paws. It's only slightly painful when I don't have a blanket and she's working that exposed skin. Those nails come out ever so slightly once and a while but are worth getting showered with love.

The Bathroom

When you own a cat, good luck trying to go to the bathroom by yourself. Like a child, if you leave them out they are sticking their little paws underneath the door so if you don't mind just leave the door open. Some cats like to sit and stare from the doorway, others get up on the sink and some take full advantage and climb on you for toilet cuddles.

Kisses

I learned my lesson within the first few months of owning Winnie. She went from washing herself to kissing my forward (licking) and I didn't move. That sandpaper tongue stripped a few layers of skin off right in the middle of my forehead! I thought it was a bit uncomfortable and that mistake stayed for a few days afterward. Pro-tip, move your face a little so that way the same spot isn't getting constantly kissed. It's quite an honor for them to do this so try and go with the flow if you can.
