Survey says!  One of my all-time favorite lines from the older editions of  The Family Feud is "Survey Says"!  So now Yakima is being asked to take a survey and you'll have the chance to say what the survey says!  I also like the line, "I love it when a plan comes together."  (I guess it's because so very few of mine ever do!)  But here we have both a plan AND a survey,  and I'm happy to tell you about it.

The Pedestrian Master Plan aims to analyze the way pedestrian traffic moves throughout the City, examines areas that could be improved, and develop a series of goals and policies the City can implement to help improve traffic standards around the City.

Over the last six months, the project team has been weighing data, listening to the public and stakeholders about challenges and opportunities for walking today, and they are developing a strategy that will guide the City in a long-term program of improving sidewalks, crossings, and more.

One way to learn about walkability is to take a walk!  The City is offering two tours this Thursday 8/12/21

  • 9:00 am to 10:00 am starting at the Capitol Theatre and looping around a small portion of Downtown Yakima.
  • 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm starting at Yakima Valley Museum, and looping a small portion of the Barge Chestnut neighborhood.

During the tours, City officials and members of the City of Yakima Bike and Pedestrian Advisory Committee will discuss walking in Yakima and incorporate public feedback into the final segments of the Pedestrian Master Plan.

Both tours are open to the public.
