A 17-year-old gang member from Yakima is now facing a charge of first-degree manslaughter in the shooting of a 14-year-old boy last month in Yakima. Prosecutors charged Kent Hewitt this week saying he'll face the charges as an adult even though he continues to be held in the juvenile jail.
Hewitt is charged with the September 14 shooting death of Charlie Taylor at a home in the 1100 block of Willow Street. Taylor died at a Yakima hospital. Police say Hewitt was careless with the gun on the night of the shooting. Police have recovered the gun. Hewitt is being held on $500,000 bail. Hewitt is expected to be in court to face charges October 14.
