This past Friday, Christmas music was finally heard on the airwaves of 94.5 KATS. During the morning show with Todd & Timmy, they kicked it off with "Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo" from South Park, and "Weird Al" Yankovic's "The Night Santa Went Crazy", one of my all time favorites. Well later on in the day, I got an email from a listener saying that they never heard that version of Al's classic from the 1999 released Bad Hair Day.  See, the version we play on KATS, is known as the "Extra Gory Version." It was a B-side on the "Amish Paradise" single. The main changes start at about the 2:30 mark. The original tells how Santa got caught and is now serving time, and how the elves are now working for the postal service. The original version is below:

In the "Extra Gory Version," things are much darker at the North Pole and the future of Christmas is in question, with Santa being taken out by a sniper and how there will be no more presents on Christmas morning. Take a listen below:

It is interesting to note, that when Al performs this song in concert, he does a mixture of both versions. Where Santa is taken out, but the elves are still working. Which version do you prefer? Should KATS cut back on the Christmas blood and violence, or just keep going with the wacky fun holiday tunes?
