The Yakima Union Gospel Mission is hoping to help at risk kids soon through the reopening of the Mission's Madison House Community Youth Center on Wednesday, August 5. Mission Director Mike Johnson says the center has been closed since the beginning of the pandemic and that's left a lot of kids vulnerable to gang activity, substance and domestic abuse. The program at Madison House Youth Center has been in operation since 1989. The goal of the center is to help guide kids through life serving kids age 5-20. An average of 100 kids used to gather at the center every week but since it was closed in March Johnson says he's worried about kids who aren't getting the guidance they need through the center. He hopes to open the center soon.
