Costco's Chicken Strips Are Here—But There Might Be A Catch

When I heard that Costco was adding chicken strips to their food court menu, I was excited. Probably more so than I should be. When I saw that the Wenatchee location was serving them, I had to check our Yakima Valley location. They’re here, but… I couldn’t get them. My certain type of laziness is what prevented me from trying them. I’ve laid out my frustrations below so you can be better informed.

I’m A Member, But Not That Kind Of Member

My wife and I are Costco members, but I never go there without her. I have my reasons (mainly because I buy stuff she doesn’t want me to buy and I get in trouble).

While we were checking out this past Sunday, I saw the flier at the cashier station, and she told me to go get some, and we’d try them. To see if they’re as good as some of our other strips, at Last Frontier Restaurant (Nob Hill Bowling), Outback Steakhouse, Miners, Jean’s Cottage Inn. So many great places. I had hoped to add another.

I’m Lazy, But Not That Kind of Lazy

Now, what happened next: I’m sure there were other ways to handle it, but it was Sunday morning, and I was at Costco; you could say that my patience was stretched.

I went to the digital kiosks to order, and it wanted my membership info. Kind of annoying since I’m this far into Costco and they need me to prove that I can be in there again, but I get it. So I scan my card. It doesn’t work. It wants me to scan my phone; they want my App membership card.

As I said, I only come with my wife, who has the app and her ID on there. I do not; I have the card. I’m lazy to the point that I’d prefer to just use the card they’ve given me instead of dealing with another app on my phone, and be that type of lazy.

After the screen continued to give me the angry beeps, it said it was calling a cashier. I waited; no one came. I said ‘screw it,’ and my wife and I left.

I did NOT go up to the counter to attempt to purchase it that way; I did not ask at the check stand if we could order them that way (I’m not sure if they do that anymore); I was just done.

I vented to my wife on the way out and told her if she wanted to go back in, since she does have the app, to go for it and I’d load the car. She informed me of a frustration she has faced (dealing with a customer's purchasing order and wait time). That problem could have been a one-time bad day, but she didn’t want to deal with it.

So, no chicken strips for me, at least through the kiosk since I didn’t have the app. Now I (and you) know for next time.
