Yakima, Is It Too Early for Christmas Decorations?

I've written about house decorating and the appropriate time frame to do it previously, but when I was out shopping over Labor Day weekend, I just couldn't believe it. Halloween decorations put on sale before the end of August, not too surprising nowadays, but Christmas before September?

I was so excited that Spirit Halloween opened; I was all ready for spooky season. Well, that seemed to last a minute before Santa shoved his Holly Jolly Candy Caned {Expletives Deleted} in people's faces! Before Thanksgiving, before Halloween, BEFORE LABOR DAY!

Yeah, that’s right, before summer is even over, Christmas is here. I snapped a few pictures of the Christmas stuff you can buy now while at our Yakima Valley Costco (notice in the photo above, Halloween decorations in the background).

I'm No Longer Decorating

Forget it, I'm done. Technically I've been done for several years now. I'm done decorating for Christmas. I'm not done with Christmas by any means; I still enjoy the true meaning of it, but the commercialization has gotten beyond ridiculous.

Summer is just now getting over, and the salesman wants me singing "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow".

For my family and I, that’s not happening. We’ve stopped decorating altogether (not just Christmas, but all the holidays). The non-stop polar express of holiday sales has beaten me down so much that I don’t care anymore. And for the record, I don’t mind capitalism; I don’t mind sales. I do mind jumping the gun 4 months in advance.

If you love the holidays and are excited and are already decorating your house, cool, do your thing, live your life, and be holly and jolly. If you’re not hurting anyone, I’m all for it; I’m just sick of the Christmas season already, and it’s only early September.
