Without going into a lot of details, I spent more time than I cared to at Memorial Hospital. I’m fine, and my family is fine. Thank you for asking. I must say, everyone who works there was and is amazing and gave nothing but the best of care. I’m mainly writing this piece because one thing, in particular, stood out and amused me. I totally get the why, but I was still dumbstruck by this specific practice.

Maybe I’m still in Covid-19 and pandemic shock, but when I came into the hospital to make my visit, the security was not what I was expecting. The last time I came here was in the middle of the pandemic. So, of course, everyone was worried and screening for covid before you even walked through the door. If you were visiting someone, tuff, if you didn’t need to be there, you DIDN’T NEED TO BE THERE. I understand, and I appreciate all the healthcare workers and applaud them for everything they did.

This visit was a little different. As I went through security, I wasn’t asked any screening questions or had my temperature checked. They had me empty my pockets and go through a metal detector for security. I even had to take my tiny pocket knife back to my car. Once again, I understand. In the world we live in, and with many people’s mental states, it is better to be safe than sorry.

If I had to choose between the screening process of a couple of years ago during the pandemic, or the kind I experienced today with a metal wand, I’d choose the latter. If you’re reading this, thank you. This is just an observation I had and wanted to write it down to occupy my mind at 2 am while I’m here at the hospital. Cheers!
