The Director of the Yakima YMCA is excited to fully reopen the Yakima YMCA Aquatic Center at Chesterley park but COVID-19 restrictions mean the facility is only partially open. Bob Romero says restrictions mean the new aquatic center can only welcome groups of 5 or less for lap and swimming lessons. No other parts of the facility are open.

Romero says if Yakima was to move into phase 2 of the state's reopening plan they could allow more people in the pool for lessons and lap swimming and open the fitness area as well. He says they've prepared the entire facility to be able to open with restrictions but he doesn't see that happening anytime in the future.
Membership fees have been suspended since mid-March when the pandemic started.
Romero says they continue to work closely with the Yakima Health District hoping to open as soon as possible. He says the Yakima YMCA is one of only two YMCA facilities currently closed in the state. The other is located in Wenatchee.
