Zillah Teapot Spotted In Kansas

Have you ever been on a road trip and you see something that reminds you of home? You look a little bit closer and you are even more convinced that what you see, isn't just reminding you of home, but that it's actually from there? Then, you take to your phone and search google for the historical Teapot Done in Zillah, Washington, just to make sure you're not going crazy? Okay, well you might not have had that exact experience, but my friend Ezekiel Stinnett did while he was in Wichita, Kansas. Take a look.

The Teapot Dome Service Station Historical Site

Many in our area know about the Teapot structure located at 117 First Avenue in Zillah, because of the novelty design. What many might not know is why it was built. According to Wikipedia, it was built as a reminder of the bribery scandal that involved president Warren G. Harding that went on to become known as "The Teapot Dome Scandal". Now it stands as a great tourist attraction that was listed by the United States Department of Interior on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

The Teapot Spotted in Kansas

While visiting friends and family, Ezekiel (also known as Zeke) was at a local restaurant called Spangles. A local diner kind of like our very own Mel's Diner here in Yakima. While he was eating, he looked up up and saw something familiar.

Yeah I was sitting there eating and was like hey that looks like the teapot from Zillah. So I Googled it and was like 'yeah I'm right' So I showed my girlfriend's parents and said 'hey this is at where I live' lol.  -Zeke

Judging by the pictures (above & below), it looks like it (the framed picture) was taken pre 2007, before the city of Zillah purchased, moved and rehabilitated the Teapot to it's current location (according to Wikipedia).

If you've never taken a closer look at the Teapot Dome in Zillah, go for it. It's free for public viewing and the inside (when it's open) is even a souvenir shop. Take a look at the pictures below.
