Started on those New Year's Resolutions yet? If feeling better and looking better are on the list, then this is a story for you. Or maybe, just maybe this is the answer to the question of what to give that hard-to-shop-for person on your Christmas list.
What do you know and how do you feel about Botox?
Now wait, before you turn away because you aren't into the vanity often associated with Botox, there is more here to consider.

Wait Isn't Botox A Poison?

Do a google search for Botox in Yakima and you'll find about a dozen Botox options.  This is a good place to insert just what Botox is and how it works.  John Hopkins online describes it this way:
"Botulism is a serious, but rare, paralytic illness caused by neurotoxins produced by the common bacterium, Clostridium botulinum, which is found throughout the world in soil and ocean sediment. Normally, the bacterium exists in the environment as a dormant spore; however, in low oxygen, the spores germinate into active bacteria, multiply, and produce toxins which are among the most potent toxins known."
Botulism is very dangerous and often deadly...(and it can show up in improperly canned foods)..BUT..  a diluted formulation of botulinum toxin is injected clinically under the name Botox®  to ease wrinkles, migraines, muscle spasms, excessive sweating, and more.

Finding The Positive In The Deadly

So YES, you are injecting diluted deadly poison into your face to paralyze the muscles, stop them from moving, and thus creating wrinkles!  So who's up for that??

Plenty, according to a study, from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, that found Botox injections became the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedure in 2020, with 4.4 million procedures performed last year!

Celebrities whose looks are their livelihood are all in.  And thousands of people from all walks of life you pass by every day are too, you just don't know it!   A judicious use of Botox can slow down the creation of wrinkles, so there is the  "look better" part.

Can Botox Paralyze Anxiety?

What about the "feel better" part?

The Daily Mail reports on a study that found Botox seems to help with the symptoms of anxiety. Scientists from California found Botox injections can reduce anxiety by up to 72 percent, regardless of where it is injected.
The researchers say It’s not clear exactly how it reduces symptoms of anxiety, though there is speculation that the toxins from the medication may be transported to the regions of the central nervous system involved with mood and emotions. Another possibility is that Botox simply lowers anxiety by treating the conditions that it is known to help ...so, as usual, more study is required to establish the best site and dose to administer Botox specifically for anxiety.

This new study has been published in the journal Scientific Reports, and if you are looking for local information, VALLEY DERMATOLOGY ASSOCIATES  3911 Castlevale Rd #30 (509) 966-7899  is a good place to start.

Back in the day (mid 80's) on Saturday Night Live, Billy Crystal used to impersonate actor Fernando Lamas with the phrase "it's better to look good than to feel good and you look marvelous"!  Maybe, with Botox,  it's possible to do both?
