Mel’s Diner in Yakima is Still Serving Delicious Food Since 1982

Whew! Mel's Diner in Yakima is OPEN and ready to serve hungry guests, including the regulars that have been enjoying their morning coffee and catch-ups there since 1982!

Foodie Fridays with Sarah J powered by Coca-Cola of Yakima and Tri-Cities was a breakfast date this morning for me and the hubs. Mel's Diner is open daily from 6:00 am - 2:30 pm and located at 314 N 1st St, Yakima, WA 98901, with dine-in and curbside pick-up available!

This is a staple in the Yakima Valley and I'll be honest, it was looking a little scary during the pandemic. First, they closed their doors and there were rumors that it might not open again. That was heartbreaking to hear, I know I'm not the only one who grew up enjoying late-night coffee and chats with friends there, so I am SO happy to help spread the word that NOT ONLY are they open, but Fred (the owner) is STILL bringing coffee to your booth or helping you check-out.

The sign at the cash register reminds you you're in a 1950's time capsule but it's more than just the music. The booths have different colors, the bar is set up to serve everyone soda fountain style and even some of the seats look like vehicles with their car lights on shining bright.

The menu is extensive with all your favorite classic breakfast pairings. My man chose chicken fried steak and I went with eggs benedict. We both were super satisfied and noticed that their grill, does it right! There is a bit of a char on your meat that brings extra flavors and I am ALL for that! PLUS, on your birthday you can get hooked up with a t-bone steak and eggs. Hello! :)

The service is fantastic and everyone is so happy to be getting back to their normal visits that I HIGHLY recommend you swinging by to say hi to Fred while grabbing breakfast or lunch! Support local and step back in time at Mel's Diner in Yakima!
