A state grant will help people who help others in the Yakima Valley. The grant money will fund winterization of tents at Yakima Union Gospel Mission, fund the newly opened Young Adult Shelter in Sunnyside operated by Rod’s House. The funding, from the Department of Commerce will also pay for improvements and the installation of portables at Yakima's Camp Hope. According to a news release, one of the portables at Camp Hope will be named in honor of  the late Commissioner Norm Childress, who pushed for the portables to increase the safety and quality of life for those living at Camp Hope. A groundbreaking was held on Friday for the installation of portables at Camp Hope. The work is now underway.
