According to a city news release issued Saturday (Feb. 9):

"The City of Yakima has declared a state of emergency due to severe winter weather that began Friday evening, has continued today, and is expected to last through at least Sunday morning. A blizzard warning issued by the National Weather Service Saturday afternoon will remain in effect until at least 10:00 am Sunday."

The city declaring a state of emergency allows it to have access to additional funds and resources to assist in the winter weather response.

The city also asks that residents stay off the roads if possible, and to limit time spent outdoors.
