Yesterday morning it seemed like winds had sent the smoke curtain that has enveloped the Yakima Valley some other direction. Yesterday afternoon it returned and nearly made the foothills disappear once again and, as you can see in the photo above, nearly screened out the sun. Todd and our co-worker JT actually they found a little ash from the forest fires to the west on the tops of their vehicles.

At last count 859 square miles of the State of Washington were on fire. That's 1.2% of the entire state on fire. To put that in perspective, imagine 1.2 square feet of your child's bedroom (approximately 10' X 10') on fire... now extend that to every part of Washington and that's what firefighters are dealing with.
