KATS CONCERT REVIEW: Theory Of A Deadman Rocks Legends!
The lights go dark, and we hear a familiar tune. That of Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline coming through the speakers.
The Friday night crowd at Legends Casino Hotel Event Center knows this song, and we all start singing along, adding our own crowd supplies, "bom bom bom" on cue.
Then you hear the sounds of a party and people talking. Saying the party sucks, let's head down to the basement to do our own thing.
The lights come up as the members of Theory (Dean, Joey, Dave & Tyler with special guest Jeff Martin) come down the stairs to a stage designed to look like everyone's parents' basement from the 70s/80s. Complete with mixed-matched furniture, shag carpet, and wood panel walls.
The band picked up their instruments, sat down, and kicked off their 'unplugged' show loud and proud with their songs Gentleman and Low Life!
Tyler welcomed us to the show, talked about their stage and how the only thing it was missing was a random pole in the middle for some dumb reason, then joked about 'Dad Facts' and how it would have been a 'load barring' pole.
Tyler's got jokes!
Even though this was an unplugged show, it was still a nice, loud, fun, and heavy rock show put on by the guys.
The biggest difference between this show and previous times Theory has played the Yakima Valley was the main focus on acoustic guitars and the inclusion of special guest Jeff Martin, who rocked the piano/keyboard, guitar, and even saxophone! A great addition!
Theory played for a little over an hour and a half with some of their hits like World Keeps Spinning, Two Of Us (Stuck), & Blow.
One of the funnier parts for me was the band's surprise kick into Dueling Banjos and their comedic riffing afterward before playing one of their latest hits, Livin' My Life Like A Country Song.
One of the more beautiful and inspirational times of the night was when Tyler talked about the charitable work the band has done in the 25 years of playing music. How a portion of every ticket sold goes to help out a specific charity, and this year, Theory was helping out the Gary Sinise Foundation, which helps out veterans.
Asking the crowd for people who have served to make some noise and then getting the rest to cheer for them. He then picked a couple of Veterans out of the crowd for them to come up on stage to sit for a couple of songs, including Wait for Me, and made the on-stage guests join in with the music by playing egg shakers for their song Straight Jacket.
Following was the hit Santa Monica, and then Tyler and Jeff went back and forth about a certain piano song that could get the crowd amped up.
Amazing music and comedy flowed with snippet covers including Vanessa Carlton, Journey & Van Halen.

Kicking into full gear, Theory launched into their fun ode to relationships, The Bitch Came Back, and wrapped up their set with Hate My Life.
They then headed back 'upstairs' for a few minutes for a few minutes before an encore.
Chris Isaak's Wicked Game was followed by RX (Medicate) to much of the crowd's delight!
While thanking the audience and everyone involved in the show the band played a fun medley of Guns N Roses, Blur, and I swore I heard some Pantera! (Yeah, 'Walk' played on an acoustic was badass!).

Theory Of A Deadman wrapped up a fun-filled night of loud, electrified, acoustic rock with Bad Girlfriend, which left everyone with smiles!
A great performance for the bands final show in the U.S. on this leg of their Unplugged Tour!
Thank You, Legends, for bringing in these great bands and helping keep live music alive in the valley.
