At approximately 8:30 this morning, five members of the Yakima Fire Department's Technical Rescue Team assisted the Yakima County Sheriff's Department in rescuing a man trapped and clinging to a screw jack on the Wapato Irrigation/Parker diversion dam just off of Highway 97 near Lateral A in Wapato.

The agencies hooked up a rope system to a raft to rescue the stranded man before bringing him back safely to dry land.

Yakima Fire Department Public Information Officer Jeff Pfaff reminds you that our local waterways are fast moving at this time of year and to observe and follow warning signs when near our rivers. He goes on to say, "This person could have been swept away under water and drowned. He is a very lucky man today."
